The deputy of Nueva Canarias - Canarista Bloc (NC-BC) for Lanzarote, Yoné Caraballo, has demanded that the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, "show his face" and respond to the constant cuts in the supply of drinking and agricultural water that the island is suffering.

Caraballo understands that the situation is "extremely serious for the Government of the Canary Islands and its highest authority to intervene and give explanations." Even more so, he points out, "with the heat wave that the Canary Islands and Lanzarote are suffering, where thermometers have reached more than 30 degrees in areas that did not provide running water."

The Canarist reminds the President of the Canary Islands of "the commitment he made in the investiture session last July, where Clavijo pledged to take urgent measures to alleviate the water problems of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote." In addition, he asks "how will he solve these supply problems such as water and electricity with a developmental proposal and a denial of demographic and territorial containment measures of the islands, the main cause of the problems we suffer in the Canary Islands."

According to Caraballo, "30% of Lanzarote's energy demand is dedicated to desalinating water. It is a costly expense due to the use of fossil fuels for this purpose and the high demand generated by the island."

"It seems that President Clavijo quickly forgets his promises, since to this day we do not know what he thinks and what decisions he is going to take to provide a long-term response to this water crisis that residents of Lanzarote and La Graciosa are experiencing," says Caraballo, who sees "that the conservative government of CC and PP is washing its hands of the inability of the Island Council and the company awarded the Canal Gestión service to guarantee the supply of water in decent conditions"; a company, he recalls, "that manages the water of all Lanzarote residents because CC decided so."
