The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has sent a new letter to the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and of the Water Consortium, Oswaldo Betancort, where he requested "once again" the thirteen reports that he already requested on April 12. In this sense, he points out that his request requires "detailed technical documentation on supply, losses, investments, purification and agricultural water in the last decade."
He has also asked the island president to convene "urgently" the first mayors' table of the legislature in order to exclusively address the water problem, regardless of the meetings of the Consortium Assembly.
This reiteration of the request for information by the Yaiza City Council occurs "in view of the incidents that Lanzarote and La Graciosa have been dragging in terms of water supply, from which towns in the south of the Island have not been exempt, and other equally important concerns related to the integral water cycle."
Óscar Noda states that “if the Cabildo presented a Supply Action Plan based on an ‘exhaustive’ diagnosis, I deduce that my concerns will have a quick response. The seven municipalities must have the detailed documentation.”
“It is not a trivial fact either,” adds the southern leader, “to know which administrations already have the commitment to co-finance the 90 million investment and what are the execution times of the projects.”
The documentation requested by the Yaiza City Council to the Lanzarote Water Consortium is summarized in thirteen documents, namely:
- Report on water losses or uncontrolled water 2013 - 2022 and measures adopted.
- Report on the state of purification and sanitation in Lanzarote: number of treatment plants operating on the Island, Are all users connected to the sewage system? How much sanitation water enters the circuit for subsequent purification?.
- Report of brine water discharges produced by public and private desalination plants between the years 2013 and 2022
- Report of wastewater discharges produced on the Island between the years 2013 and so far in 2023.
- Report on the drinking water distribution network: quality of the pipes, materials used and length thereof;
- Report of investments made between the years 2013 and 2022 in the island's supply network on the island of Lanzarote and La Graciosa
- Report of public or private subsidies received between the years 2013 and 2022;
- Number of complaints registered, in relation to abusive invoices charged by Canal Gestión Lanzarote submitted by subscribers or users.
- Minutes of the meetings of the Monitoring Commission between the Water Consortium and Canal Gestión from 2013 to the present.
- Amount of purified water between 2013 and 2022, and the energy consumption demanded for this purpose
- Amount of regenerated water produced annually from 2013 to 2022, and its energy consumption.
- Amount of reused water consumed annually between 2013 and 2022, and its energy consumption
- Amount of agricultural water consumed annually between 2013 and 2022. Data by municipalities.
Óscar Noda highlights that “last June we celebrated ten years of Canal Gestión's operation in Lanzarote, that is, ten years of the privatization of water management on our Island, so it is also appropriate that the city councils and citizens know in detail the list of investments that the company committed to make when it assumed management a decade ago.”
