The mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes, and the Councilor for Tourism, Marina Santana, have started a series of working meetings with the directors of the main national and foreign tour operators to learn directly about their assessments of the tourist areas of southern Lanzarote, Playa Blanca and Puerto Calero.

These meetings, which are taking place on the island, will be intensified in these weeks in parallel with the meetings that the drafters of the new Tourism and Urban Development Plan of Yaiza will hold on the island.

Yesterday, the senior executives of one of the main British tour operators First Choice, Dermot Blastland, executive director; and Richard Calvert, purchasing director, conveyed to the representatives of Yaiza their assessments of Playa Blanca and Puerto Calero. In this sense, they confirmed that Playa Blanca "continues as the main destination area on the island of volcanoes for British tourists".

The First Choice delegate in the Canary Islands, Joana Wilkinson, also attended this meeting, held in Yaiza. At the end of the meeting, the Councilor for Tourism, Marina Santana, presented these executives with a plaque of appreciation for their presence as a tour operator in Playa Blanca since 1986, with the opening of the first hotel.
