The workers of Puertos Canarios denounced this Friday their situation of defenselessness against the contagion of Covid-19, due to the fact that tests are not carried out to detect the disease despite their high exposure due to the services they provide to citizens every day.

The Federation of Services to the Citizenry of Comisiones Obreras Canarias (FSC-CCOO) points out that this has been a demand of the workers of Puertos Canarios, which depend on the regional Administration, since the state of alarm began, without having been attended to by those responsible. The workers understand the difficulty of carrying it out in the first moments of the pandemic, when the demand for tests was very high among healthcare personnel, who were more exposed to contagion. However, they do not understand that, when two months have passed and the performance of tests is a widespread practice in more than thirty private laboratories on the islands, many with regional implementation, the workers of Puertos Canarios continue without receiving them.

They point out that the thirty officers who have to do the face-to-face work attend daily to hundreds of people who demand the services of Puertos Canarios, so they should be subject to security protocols against Covid-19, as other public employees are at the moment, such as the police and firefighters. This is a test whose cost does not exceed 60 euros, so they do not understand that the Canarian Executive does not take charge of a measure that not only protects workers against the pandemic, but also their families and the citizens who They interact with them daily.

FSC-CCOO highlights that the neglect of the Canarian Public Administration with the workers of Puertos Canarios is not something new, since for more than five years they have not been provided with the regulatory uniform, despite being stipulated in the agreement the renewal every two years.

The workers remind the executive presided over by Ángel Víctor Torres that the workers of Puertos Canarios have not put a single obstacle to the performance of citizen attention during these months of pandemic. "Even, many of the workers, who were on vacation, have returned to their jobs to guarantee the service to the citizen", they add. For this reason, they consider that this is the moment in which "the Canarian administration also acts in solidarity with its workers and agrees to carry out Covid-19 tests on the staff that is most exposed to the disease."
