The spokesperson and councilor of the Socialist Group of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, has denounced that "while Lanzarote collapses, Oswaldo Betancort focuses his plans on going to New York to look for more tourists, blindly ignoring the situation that the island is going through".

"It is regrettable that the president of the Cabildo has exposed the objectives of his agenda on his trip to the United States and these involve going to capture more tourist markets", added the socialist councilor.

"Oswaldo Betancort continues to be determined to ignore the reality suffered by the citizens of Lanzarote, or at least the social majority, in issues as serious as the impossibility of families accessing decent rent at an affordable price and what is worse: he continues to be determined to ignore the data that supports that Lanzarote cannot take it anymore", González stressed.

The socialist councilor insists that "the problems of tourist saturation, housing and environmental helplessness that we are experiencing can be solved from the office of the Cabildo of Lanzarote but the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote does not want to. He has refused to use the island's carrying capacity study that María Dolores Corujo left done, just as he refuses to use the resources offered by the Housing Law to balance the rental market".

"The people of Lanzarote are clear about the truth, they know that we are living a historical moment like the one we already lived decades ago and where it is necessary to become aware of the situation and stop the excessive growth that is already impoverishing us socially, territorially and environmentally and that leads us to a more serious situation".
