A total of 95 union representatives from four organizations, STEC, CCOO, UGT and Insucan, attended an assembly of temporary and substitute teachers at the Zonzamas Secondary School last Wednesday, where they agreed on different demands and support actions for the negotiations that are being carried out with the Government of the Canary Islands as a result of the new decree. In this sense, they agreed to support three days of strike, taking advantage of the notices presented by the unions. Thus, the stoppages will take place on April 13, 14 and 15.
During the assembly, the union representatives decided to place special emphasis on Wednesday, April 14, and request the support of the staff of the centers to join at least that day to the strike.
Also, during that same day they will concentrate at 11:00 am in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and request an interview with the president, Pedro San Ginés. The unions intend to ask San Ginés for his support to the group of educators so that the current lists of temporary and substitute teachers are maintained.
These four unions have marked their strategy against the Government of the Canary Islands and have decided that their position will be to ask for the "withdrawal of the decree". In this sense, they will request that the current lists be maintained "as they are" and if a new decree is negotiated, that it starts from scratch. "That is, that the decree of the Ministry is not renegotiated", they say from STEC.
They will also ask the assemblies of other islands to take into consideration the previous agreements of the Lanzarote meeting. In this sense, they agreed to withdraw the payrolls from the banking entities La Caja de Canarias and CajaCanarias. The unions could create a social platform that collects support for the group of temporary and substitute teachers and that serves as a springboard even for the next local elections.
