"The beneficiaries of this Professional Construction Card are all those professionals in the sector who have worked at least 30 days during the 12 months prior to applying for the card," said Gregorio Guerra, provincial secretary of the Federation of Metal, Construction and Affines.
In addition, as a requirement, workers must have received a course on prevention of occupational hazards, which UGT is teaching during these days on the island. "The course lasts 8 hours and is mandatory, but if the worker has taken another course of similar characteristics previously, it is validated," explained Gregorio Guerra.
The objective of the card
"The card tries to professionalize the sector," said the provincial secretary. In addition, as workers are required to take the prevention course to have the card, "workplace accidents are also reduced."
Its origin dates back to the signing of the Collective Agreement for Construction in 2007. "The card certifies that the worker has training and is centralized throughout the national territory," said Gregorio Guerra. Thus, both the company and the worker can update it through the internet, "always justifying all the experience," explained the provincial secretary.
The card lasts for five years and then it is renewed. "It was something necessary. I compare it to the hospitality sector and the food handler's card," said Gregorio Guerra.
