Two new boats have arrived on the island in the early hours of this Friday, one of them also with eight bundles of hashish. The Civil Guard has so far located 26 immigrants, of whom six have reported being minors, and has simultaneously arrested a man of Maghrebi origin residing in Lanzarote who was allegedly waiting for the boat in which the drugs were coming.
The first of the boats was located on El Golfo Beach around 2.50 am, after the Local Police spotted several immigrants in the area. After the corresponding joint operation between both bodies, 14 men of Maghrebi origin were located, one of them possibly a minor, and the corresponding boat, which also carried eight bundles of hashish. Simultaneously, the Civil Guard arrested a man of Maghrebi origin, resident on the island, who was allegedly waiting for the boat.
Later, at around 4:30 am, the Civil Guard was alerted by the Local Police of Costa Teguise, after it intercepted five irregular immigrants, all of them men of Maghrebi origin, in the area of Famara. Thus, an operation was launched, managing to locate seven more immigrants and later the possible boat in which they were traveling was located adrift, requesting Maritime Rescue to intercept it.
Thus, the total number of immigrants located from this second boat amounts to 12, of whom five have stated that they are minors, although the search device remains open. After being attended by the health resources deployed to the areas, including the Red Cross, the immigrants will be transferred to the facilities of the National Police of Arrecife.
