Ángel Víctor Torres has officially announced this Saturday that he will run for re-election as Secretary General of the Socialist Party of the Canary Islands at the 14th Congress, which will take place on November 19, 20 and 21 on the island of Tenerife, where the party will address the renewal of its various governing bodies.
This was announced in statements to the media before beginning an extraordinary Regional Committee in Gran Canaria in which his Marco Presentation will be presented, the document that includes the programmatic lines of the organization for the next four years and that will be debated at the congressional meeting in November.

Ángel Víctor Torres indicated that this event occurs after four years of "hard" work by the current Executive, which arrived in 2017 with the aim of "taking the PSOE out of the opposition" and which was fulfilled by achieving governance in the Canary Islands after 26 years, also managing to govern in three councils and in more than thirty municipalities.
Torres insisted that this is a work that has been reflected in the institutional reality, responding to "all adversities" and also in a moment "of joy", since it is the first face-to-face Regional Committee since the beginning of the pandemic, with the presence of about 300 militants.
If re-elected as secretary general, he advanced that the next four years will serve to consolidate the socialist project, in which he will work for "a Canary Islands that defends itself without complexes, from the pride of our belonging, of what our strategic place means, the possibilities we have to be a model in climate change, so that there are new job niches, we can correct the structure of poverty we receive, provide the best social services and the largest public investment".

Another of his priority purposes will also be that the social majority "sees a Government in which their difficulties, their fears, their problems are reflected; a Government that is active and that provides a response by resolving them". In this sense, Torres said that in these two and a half years of difficulties, the majority of Canarians "has seen a Government that has been there, that has done its best, making mistakes, but responding to various adversities", and assured that they will continue to do so "in a different era", in which one of the objectives will be "to recover the Canary Islands well".
Changes in the structures
The leader of the Canarian socialists admitted that in this new stage there will be changes in the different bodies, because "whenever there are changes in the structures, there are changes of people and criteria". In fact, he stressed that today a Marco Presentation will be approved that will give the "focus" of what the action of the PSOE of the Canary Islands has to be in the next four years and, therefore, he insisted that there will be "modification of people and new approaches", but always "betting on being on the side of the social majority".
Thus, a new general management and also a new regional committee will emerge from the next congressional meeting, so "they may be the last official meetings of both bodies and the PSOE is a party that is renewed".
According to Torres, the new project "involves social cohesion and equality; the commitment to a strong Canary Islands; the defense of that Canary Islands, which means a feeling of pride, firmly extending a hand in defense of our principles and what we understand is fair, but also understanding that we must seek the maximum possibility of agreements because the bickering for the sake of bickering has left us for many years with the worst data in many of the social factors of the Canary Islands". "Therefore, we have to try to reach agreements for the good of the Canarians," he added.
