DISABLED PEOPLE WILL BE EXEMPT FROM PAYING THIS FEE

Tías subsidizes 75 percent of the tax for electric or hybrid cars

The bonus came into effect on January 1. Will it also subsidize 100 percent of the tax for cars of disabled people?

January 7 2014 (18:11 WET)

The Tías City Council will subsidize 75 percent of the tax for electric cars. With this initiative, the Consortium assures that it "takes a further step towards the sustainability of the vehicle fleet on the island of Lanzarote." In addition, it will subsidize 100 percent of the tax for vehicles of disabled people.

The first of the measures came into effect on January 1 and will benefit all electric or hybrid vehicles whose owners reside in Tías. The government group, made up of the PP and San Borondón, took the modification of the fiscal ordinance regulating the tax on mechanically driven vehicles of the City Council to the plenary session on October 28 so that in 2014 all ecological vehicles have this subsidy.

The vehicles that will be subsidized are electric, bimodal or hybrid vehicles, those powered by solar energy and those that exclusively use biogas, natural gas, liquid gas, methane, methanol, hydrogen or derivatives of vegetable oils.

To access the bonus in this section, the vehicle owner must be up to date with the payment of all municipal taxes. The bonus provided for in this section is subject to request and will take effect, where appropriate, from the tax period following the one in which it is requested.

On the other hand, cars for the disabled or people with reduced mobility will be exempt from the road tax. The City Council explains that people with disabilities will be considered to be those who have this legal condition to a degree equal to or greater than 33 percent.

Tías, first municipality with electric charging points

The City Council also recalls that Tías is the first municipality in Lanzarote, and the first with a tourist area in the entire Canary Islands, to have an electric charging point for hybrid or electric vehicles. This charging point is located on Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen. The Consortium plans to create new charging points.

The City Council is also incorporating more ecological and less polluting vehicles into its fleet. Specifically, five vans from the cleaning service are powered by electricity.
