Three people have been arrested in the framework of the "Operación Bolas", which has allowed the seizure of almost two kilos of cocaine in a blow against a criminal organization dedicated to introducing drugs in the Canary Islands.

The operation, developed by the Udyco of the Judicial Police Brigade of Las Palmas, in collaboration with the Narcotics Group of the Local Police Station of Arrecife, began several months ago, following the trail of a gang that acted internationally.

According to the National Police, "the modus operandi of this organization consisted of recruiting adolescent individuals who were paid large sums of money in exchange for transporting large quantities of cocaine inside their bodies".

This mode of transport, "prevented the drug from being detected in airport controls, but posed an immense risk to the health of the "Correos" or transporters, as there was a very high possibility that some of the ingested cocaine capsules would break inside their bodies, each of which had an approximate weight of 100 grams".

As a result of this investigation, two individuals of Polish origin and one Moroccan were arrested, all of whom had no criminal record. The first two were responsible for transporting the seized drug in their bodies.

After the police action, 1,900 grams of cocaine and 1,088 euros were seized. As for the detainees, after being brought to justice, two were transferred to prison, while the third was released on charges.
