The mayor of Yaiza, Gladys Acuña, signed this Friday a leasing contract with a bank for the amount of 300,000 euros, through which the southern Consistory now has the equipment and sports material required by the new facilities of the Yaiza Municipal Sports Gymnasium, located near the southern soccer field.
The facilities consist of a reception, six large changing rooms - two for men, two for women and two for boys and girls - two rooms for directed activities of 150 square meters with floating parquet, a room of 220 square meters for fitness and cardiovascular with the latest generation of machinery, 3 42-inch plasma screens and computerized access control.
The Gymnasium has been built, according to the City Council, taking into account energy saving parameters and the use of clean energy. For example, the roof has been designed with natural skylights for maximum use of sunlight. It also has natural ventilation, water heating by solar panels and waste control. The Yaiza facilities are projected to support 1000 daily users. Thus, and according to the opinion of experts in the field, the southern endowments become the best public ones on the island, and "possibly, one of the best in the Canary Islands".
The objective of these facilities is to expand the program of public sports activities currently offered by the Consistory since, according to the highest municipal authority, "one of the commitments of the current Government group is to promote healthy lifestyles among the population. And we are going to act with facts and not with words" said Gladys Acuña, in relation to the previous Government group of Yaiza, headed by José Francisco Reyes, who announced in April of last year the inauguration of this Municipal Gymnasium. "Although, as has been demonstrated" continues Acuña, "the basic elements were missing for citizens to use them".
"It could have been opened" says Acuña, "although, in no case, with the necessary legal permits and authorizations for the citizens of Yaiza to practice sports. You cannot promise things that you cannot fulfill, or make ostentatious inaugurations of things that do not exist to deliberately deceive the population" says the Mayor of Yaiza, who confesses to having received countless calls from suppliers, who expected that, "logically", the city council would pay them for the work done at that time.
Gladys Acuña and the technicians of the Department of Sports headed by Evaristo García, hope that "the Municipal Gymnasium of Yaiza will be operational and at full capacity in the very near future".
