The start of the improvement works on the LZ-2 between the roundabouts of Mácher and Playa Quemada is being delayed. The works were awarded to the company Lanzagrava for 2.8 million euros, with an execution period of six months, but they have not yet been able to start due to the lack of agreement with the owners of the land that will be affected by the works.

This has been confirmed by the mayor of Tías, José Francisco Hernández, who has indicated that the start of the works "is subject to agreements being reached for the transfer of land with the owners of the 87 properties affected by the work, of which 26 are located in the municipality of Tías and the rest in Yaiza".

The Deputy Minister of Public Works of the Government of the Canary Islands, Gerardo Hernández, met last Friday with the government groups of Tías and Yaiza and requested the collaboration of the town councils of both municipalities in order to try to contact the owners of the properties as soon as possible, so that land transfer agreements can be reached as soon as possible. Hernández hopes that the works can begin before the end of the year.

Among the improvements that are planned to be carried out along the 4.8 kilometers of road that the works will cover, the construction of a third lane of 3.5 meters in uphill areas to favor the circulation of heavy vehicles, the creation of service roads to channel access to the LZ-2 in order to improve road safety and the comfort of traffic, as well as the expansion of the shoulders, which will have a width of 1.5 meters, stand out.

Among the actions, it is planned to modify the layout of the section between the roundabout of the Yaiza Institute and the roundabout of access to Playa Quemada. In this sense, the radius of three dangerous curves will be increased to soften them and improve safety, two of them near the IES and the other closer to the Lanzarote a Caballo leisure establishment. Likewise, the section between the roundabouts of the aforementioned institute and Mácher will be illuminated, with lampposts located on both sides of the road.

All these improvements, to which must be added the laying of a new wearing course to provide uniformity to the entire section of road, will mean "an improvement in visibility, safety and comfort of traffic", as explained by Gerardo Hernández.

Other actions in Yaiza

The Yaiza government group has requested the construction of a bike lane or at least the esplanade of the land to undertake it in the future. Likewise, the City Council transferred to the Government and the Cabildo the urgency of expanding the factory works that channel the waters of the Barranco del Agua, located in this same section of the LZ-2, because "it becomes a conflictive point every time it rains because the water overflows and the road is filled with stones".

On the other hand, the southern City Council requested the resurfacing of the road that connects Yaiza and Playa Blanca.
