The Sea Bass Returns to Puerto del Carmen

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, together with the island councilor for Public Works, Alfredo Mendoza, attended this Friday morning the placement of the sculpture designed by the Lanzarote artist César Manrique, ‘El Róbalo’. This will be placed in the roundabout of Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías.

In addition to Corujo and Mendoza, the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, and the president of the César Manrique Foundation, José Juan Ramírez, were present.

“After having dismantled the monument some years ago for its restoration, we are proud to have this sculpture by the emblematic César Manrique in the municipality of Tías again,” Dolores Corujo highlighted.

“The Puerto del Carmen roundabout is the ideal place to house this sculpture, due to the special affection that our artist had for this coastline and the connection and inspiration he felt with these beaches, and because of how representative it will be for the many visitors who come to this tourist place to be able to know firsthand and enjoy the work of our greatest standard-bearer,” the president stated.

Likewise, the president highlighted the “extraordinary work of the operators and head of works, people who understand the idiosyncrasy and work of César”

For his part, the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, stressed that the beach of Los Pocillos "is the perfect location for a mobile sculpture like this, with fish that turn with the wind and next to the sea of Puerto del Carmen, an area that also deserves to have the magnificent artistic creation of César Manrique.”

The sculpture is part of the ‘Wind Toys’ collection and is made up of fish. It is 11 meters high and has been placed in the roundabout of Los Pocillos beach, on Avenida de las Playas, in one of the accesses to the town of Puerto del Carmen.
