The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife hosted the first Conference on Sports Policies of Lanzarote, organized by the Canary Islands Association of Sports Management Professionals. The event brought together the top public officials in the area at the Cabildo and in the seven municipalities, their specialist technicians and the public entities of Lanzarote with the main objective of learning and sharing first-hand the current situation and defining the common needs that will be reflected in the next Strategic Plan for Sports in Lanzarote.
"A collaborative space for the promotion of synergies in terms of sports management and, above all, a meeting point for the steps and decisions to be adopted in a joint model for the benefit of the inhabitants of each locality and the conejera society in general", the organization points out.
The Minister of Sports of the Cabildo, Alfredo Mendoza, the president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the president of ACAGEDE, Noemí Rodríguez, inaugurated the Conference. Next, the national reference in management Boni Teruelo Ferreras, Director of Sports of the City Council of Santurtzi (Bizkaia) from 1987 to 2021, explained, from his extensive and recognized experience, that “sport is the basis of life”. In addition, he defended “putting the value of sport and its management at the center of society, public administrations and interested agents with long-term policies and with an evolutionary model since society has changed and, after the pandemic, in a very accelerated way”.
"A philosophy oriented towards public policies of school, federated and groups at risk of exclusion sports, with the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals, and with complementary policies that from the public sector guarantee the universalization of sports. Also, making available the human and material resources so that citizens, supported by science, technology, communication and marketing, feel sport as a physiological need", the organization points out. For these reasons, Mendoza encouraged the public institutions of Lanzarote, with the Cabildo as sponsor of this Conference together with the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, to draft a comprehensive strategic plan with all the agents diagnosing, analyzing and addressing management and viability models.
For his part, the Head of the Technical Unit of the Sports Service of the Cabildo de Tenerife and award for best sports manager of the Canary Islands 2022, Samuel González, focused his presentation on the work that is being carried out, problems and challenges they face in the neighboring island. A guide that during the course of the Conference motivated the exchange of impressions and opinions in the working tables, during the exhibition of the 20 future challenges identified by the island and local leaders, before finalizing the meeting with the important conclusions contributed and obtained by those present who filled the room during the productive morning. An event that ACAGEDE will consolidate as the seed of the unbeatable path that is yet to come in the public sports management of the island.
