In the plenary session held this Friday, the spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo, Ariagona González, has reproached Oswaldo Betancort for "not questioning the discrimination that the fuel bonus that CC and PP have proposed for the Green Islands" (La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro) implies for Lanzarote.
During the defense of the motion presented by the Socialist Group, and rejected by the government, in which it was requested that this discrimination not occur, González reminded Betancort that in his inauguration "he promised to go to Tenerife, Madrid or Brussels to defend the interests of Lanzarote and yet, now, in an exercise of submission, he seems unable to go to Tenerife, as close as it is, to defend against Clavijo that the island cannot be marginalized in this reduction proposed for the westernmost islands."
Silence for the victims of gender violence
Ariagona González, has shown "her satisfaction that the plenary session of the institution has recovered the minute of silence for the victims of gender violence at the beginning of the plenary sessions."
This practice, established during the presidency of Loli Corujo, had been abandoned by Oswaldo Betancort, so the PSOE registered a motion requesting that this minute of silence be recovered as a sign of respect for the victims and rejection of their aggressors, achieving that, as has been pointed out, "the session began with that show of respect for the murdered women."
"However, the government group voted against the PSOE's motion with the far-fetched explanation that "they are already doing it"", when what the motion intended, beyond recovering that practice, was "to publicly and notoriously show the Cabildo's commitment against gender violence, but it seems that CC and the PP have opted for a low profile so as not to upset VOX", the councilor explained.
The commemoration of international days questioned by the far right
The PSOE brought to this plenary session a motion to institutionalize the commemoration of international days related to the defense of rights and freedoms that are being questioned by the far right.
As the socialist councilor Alberto Aguiar explained, "policies related to immigration, climate change, energy transition or gender identity and equality, suffer constant attacks from Vox, which has also managed to impose its revisionist agenda on the PP".
"Policies related to immigration, climate change, energy transition or gender identity and equality, suffer constant attacks from Vox"
The response of the government group to this proposal was to "withdraw the motion and turn it into an institutional declaration, so that it would be from the entire corporation and it would not seem that it was only a PSOE thing".
However, as the socialist spokesperson clarified, institutional declarations must be "approved unanimously", so she demanded that the Vox councilor clarify "what his position was going to be". Faced with the refusal of the far-right party to join that institutional declaration, Ariagona González insisted on "maintaining the motion since in no case could the declaration be approved".
"Unfortunately, the government group voted against, knowing that no declaration is going to be approved unanimously. They have played Vox's game by preventing the Cabildo from expressly pronouncing itself in favor of the celebration of these days, thus rejecting the denial of the far right", concluded the socialist spokesperson.
