The PSOE of the Canary Islands has opened a disciplinary file and provisionally suspended membership of Juan Bernardo Fuentes, deputy for Las Palmas in Congress, and his nephew and former general director of Livestock of the Canary Islands Government, Taishet Fuentes, for the alleged irregularities committed in the management of subsidies linked to food products.
"The PSOE's response to corruption is and will always be resounding and exemplary, as befits a party committed to public service, transparency and honorability," the party said in a statement.
In it, he advocates for a rapid clarification of the reported facts.
The National Police, in collaboration with the Civil Guard, arrested twelve people this Tuesday, accused of bribery and influence peddling, including the former Director General of Livestock of the Government of the Canary Islands, Taishet Fuentes, and the general of the Civil Guard, Francisco Javier Espinosa Navas, already retired.
The PSOE deputy in Congress for Las Palmas, Juan Bernardo Fuentes, uncle of Taishet Fuentes and predecessor of the latter in the position of general director of Livestock of the Canary Islands, is also being investigated in the alleged corruption plot.
Sources close to the investigation have indicated to EFE that this is an operation that remains open on alleged irregularities in the management of European subsidies linked to food products.
The Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands has confirmed that the actions are supervised by the Court of Instruction number 4 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and that, of the twelve arrests, two have been carried out in the islands and ten in other Spanish provinces.
Agents of the Provincial Brigade of the Judicial Police of Tenerife, in collaboration with the Internal Affairs unit of the Civil Guard, are carrying out this operation, in which, for the moment, thirteen searches are planned in several Canary Islands, as well as in other points of the peninsula.
Taishet Fuentes was removed from his duties as Director of Livestock of the Canary Islands last June due to loss of confidence, but he was going to be the PSOE candidate for mayor of Antigua (Fuerteventura) in the next elections in May.
