The PSOE of Tinajo denounces Ástrid Pérez's intention to "end the canon of the Tourist Centers"

The socialists of Tinajo have responded to the statements of the CEO of the Tourist Centers, Ástrid Pérez, who, they say, stated in recent days her intention to "rethink the canon of the town councils".

According to the PSOE candidate for Mayor of Tinajo, José Luis Bahillo, "under this euphemism lies the intention of the councillor to stop paying the tax on the income of the Centers to the municipalities in whose territory they are located".

He recalls that the Tinajo canon was established in its day under the socialist local government of Marcos Hernández, in order to financially compensate a municipality that had not based its future on tourism or urban growth. Later, Haría and Yaiza entered into that agreement. "For the battered coffers of the Tinajo town council, this economic contribution derived from the sale of tickets to the Timanfaya National Park is fundamental", says the socialist.

In that sense, Bahillo describes the "complicit" silence of the nationalist mayor, Jesús Machín, who has not spoken out until now, as "irresponsible and pathetic". "He doesn't do it now, nor has he done it before to demand payment of the debt of the Tourist Centers. A mayor worth his salt should be demanding what is rightfully his day in and day out, even if it may upset the established regime in the first island institution".

The Socialist municipal group requested through a motion to the Plenary the entry of the pending canon, "without obtaining a clear response from the Government group, which again demonstrates that it is more at the service of partisan interests of the Canarian Coalition than of the residents of Tinajo", says Bahillo.
