The PSOE of Teguise criticizes that CC allocates 1.1 million for "pitch and parties" before the elections

“We believed these populist practices were banished from political action - Bergaz states - but we see that the lack of ideas and management leads the still mayor Oswaldo Betancort and his government to 'old politics' formulas”

The PSOE of Teguise disapproves of the return to the “old politics” of “pitch and circus” of the Coalición Canaria government after the last two budget modifications approved this Monday in plenary session for an amount exceeding two million euros, of which at least 1.1 million euros have “a clear aroma of elections”.

Bergaz supports this statement "by mainly dedicating the eighth and ninth modification of the extended 2022 budgets to asphalt and more parties, when there are less than three months left for the appointment with the polls, in a new show of lack of planning and the use of practices from another era”.

We believed these populist practices were banished from political action - Bergaz states - but we see that the lack of ideas and management leads the still mayor Oswaldo Betancort and his government to 'old politics' formulas that we believed were overcome”.

"With the elections in sight, they systematically resort to the savings of the Teguise residents and to constant budget modifications, without complying with a minimum planning and without betting on projects and initiatives that truly improve the lives of citizens, or allow them to fulfill what they have been promising for more than a decade, such as the municipal pool or theater, the new technical office, the improvement plan for playgrounds, a modernization plan for Costa Teguise, etc”, Bergaz continues.

So much so that of the 2.3 million euros of the budget modifications approved by Coalición Canaria and financed mainly via surpluses - savings of the Teguise residents - more than one million euros is dedicated to asphalt, 100,000 euros for festive events or 500,000 euros for the eternal aid to SMEs and the self-employed, expenses that they intend to undertake a few days before the elections”, Bergaz points out.

To the criticisms of the socialist group, it is added that the Comptroller's report states that the file processed by the government group “does not fully comply” with the regulations, which require a “justification report” for budget modifications. However, the Intervention department warns, “only” a “proposal of need” from the Finance Councilor appears, without it “being accompanied by a justification report or specific projects to be developed in each increased item”, which in the opinion of the socialists attests to the improvisation of the government", Bergaz emphasizes.

Planning versus electoral improvisations

Faced with improvisation with an electoral aroma, the PSOE demands planning. In the opinion of the socialist candidate for Mayor of Teguise “planning means having a comprehensive paving plan for all locations to do it annually, based on the needs that are observed, and not paving when the election bell rings; planning is having approved Budgets in March that include the Government's roadmap for the entire year, not constant modifications of an expired Budget; and planning involves having already paid the aid to the self-employed and SMEs two years after approving them in plenary session, and not suffering a new delay for not having the 2023 accounts updated”.

"As an alternative to the current government of Coalición Canaria we do not share this return to the old politics of more pitch and parties a few months before the elections, because our commitment to be Government from May is to plan the actions during the four years of mandate and invest public resources without taking into account the electoral calendar", Bergaz concludes.
