The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has denounced the expenditure of 254,370 euros approved by the president Oswaldo Betancort for the coordination, planning, and management service of the Lanzarote 360 event, planned in San Antonio, Texas (USA), and awarded through a negotiated procedure without publicity.

According to the socialist councilor Benjamín Perdomo, this new contract is part of a "scandalous drift in the use of public money, which Oswaldo Betancort is massively allocating to promotional events, image campaigns, and international trips."

"We have been warning for months about the lack of control in institutional spending: trips to the United States, Iceland, millionaire campaigns, and now this. More than a quarter of a million euros for an event in Texas, awarded by hand and without publicity. Where are the priorities?" Perdomo denounced.

The socialist councilor has recalled that "the Cabildo itself has been forced to apply a budget adjustment recently, while money continues to be wasted on propaganda initiatives without a clear return for the citizens."

Perdomo has also questioned that Betancort "uses his position to chain personal trips under the cover of institutional events, many of which lack justification or real impact for the island."

"The Cabildo cannot be a travel agency or a self-promotion platform at the service of the president. Lanzarote needs serious management, not a permanent parade of events, planes, and image campaigns," he concluded.
