The Socialist Group in the Arrecife City Council has presented a motion that will be debated in the next plenary session proposing the "recovery of the shuttle bus service." The socialist spokesperson, Alfredo Mendoza, pointed out that the shuttle bus “offered a free service that contributed to reducing traffic and established low emission zones (LEZ), favoring environmental sustainability by promoting the use of public transport. The capital needs to add measures that favor the quality of life of all inhabitants”.

“We have to bet on more friendly urban environments for pedestrians and cyclists that contribute to making the city more accessible, habitable and healthy”, adds Mendoza.

The socialists highlight the “positive impact that the shuttle bus had on the city's mobility” and emphasize that “it was a public transport service that proved to be highly effective and beneficial for Arrecife.” Specifically, according to data provided by the City Council, in 2017 “92,608 people” used the Shuttle Bus, and in 2018 it achieved a new record with “116,015 users.” “Unfortunately, in 2022, a fire in the Municipal Bus warehouse completely consumed it and the Popular Party's disinterest in the continuity of the service ended up destroying it,” they point out.

“The recovery of this service would not only be a direct benefit for mobility and the environment, but also a commitment to the accessibility and well-being of our neighbors”, concludes Mendoza.
