The Insular Executive of the PSOE met this Monday to carry out an analysis of the political situation on the Island and to report on the process of selecting candidates for the next elections. Regarding the first point, some conclusions "highly optimistic". For the socialists in the Canary Islands, and Lanzarote, a "huge change of cycle" has begun. According to the polls handled by the party, "citizens are going to approach the polls with the intention of changing the current governments, so that the left returns to govern".
Regarding the process of selecting candidates for the 2007 elections, the socialists did not reach any concrete agreement. It is still unknown if Manuel Fajardo will accept the "double" to the First Institution and the Parliament of the Canary Islands, although the secretary of the PSC of Lanzarote already assured that he was not in favor of running for both lists. Nor was the type of process to be followed for the election determined, in the event that the island secretary does not head the list to the Cabildo. For the moment, a period of consultations will be opened with the rest of the groups and bodies of the party. The final names, both of the candidacy to the Cabildo, and of the rest of the slates, are expected to be resolved before December 15.
In any case, Miguel González assured that "being important the person who is going to head the list to the Cabildo, it is obvious that the PSOE has its own electoral body, and not necessarily when voting for the party one votes for the person. One votes for some initials, for an ideology".
Government Group
Although it was not a topic of debate of the Commission, Miguel González acknowledged at the end of the meeting that the tension that is reflected in the Government group of the Cabildo appears in forums that are not those of the Corporation. And although they assume that they and their partners have "different ways of understanding politics", he assured "that since the PSOE governs in the Cabildo and in Arrecife, political stability has returned".
