The PSOE of Lanzarote has issued a press release on Tuesday morning to deny "the falsehoods" of the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, who "is trying to appropriate a management that does not belong to him and sell as his own the work that socialists have done in housing".
Cristina Duque, spokesperson for the PSOE of Lanzarote, Secretary of Housing of the Island Executive and councilor in the Arrecife City Council, has been clear: “Yonathan de León is a fraud. He has not lifted a finger to make the 200 homes in Maneje a reality. That promotion is the result of socialist planning, of serious management that he is now shamelessly trying to appropriate. But the facts are what they are: those homes bear the seal of the PSOE, not his”.
In addition, the mayor has stated that he has modified the Supplementary Plan to increase public housing by 30%, when in reality "it is not his decision or an achievement of his management, but an obligation imposed by law. It is ridiculous to see him trying to hang medals for complying with the minimum. What we needed, a mayor who boasts of doing what is required by law, as if it were a merit”, Duque denounces.
But when it comes to housing, what Yonathan de León should explain to the citizens is "why his government and that of Coalición Canaria have refused to apply the Housing Law to limit the price of rent in Arrecife". "If he wants to copy the socialists, let him start there. Let him apply the Housing Law and put a cap on rents so that families in Arrecife can access a home without the prices being unaffordable”, demands the socialist spokesperson.
The PSOE of Lanzarote warns that Yonathan de León "is more concerned with recording videos and selling smoke than with providing real solutions to the problems of the citizens". “Paper and tiktoker videos can handle everything, but lies have a short journey. People are intelligent and know perfectly well who has worked for public housing and who is dedicated to propaganda without content”, Duque concludes.
The PSOE of Lanzarote will continue "defending real and effective housing policies, which guarantee the right to a decent home, without falsehoods, without populism and without tricks".
