The former mayor of Haría, Juan Ramírez, has had to face a new trial, this time in the Court of Instruction Number 6 of Arrecife, in which he is accused of an alleged crime of fraud for the sale of a plot in Tahíche. The Prosecutor's Office is asking for three years in prison for Ramírez for "selling the same property twice", as stated at the doors of the Arrecife Courts by the plaintiff, Roberto Tomás Devousassoux. Along with Ramírez, who was acting on behalf of the entity Breñas Blancas S.L., his former partner, Juan Carlos Hernández, is also accused in this same case.

According to the account of Devousassoux, he bought a plot in Tahíche, on Francisco Maldonado street, in 2004. Shortly after, the neighbors told him that Ramírez "was on the lookout" for the plot. "They told me that he was trying to sell my plot again, that it was public knowledge that it belonged to me and that it was even fenced," indicates Devousassoux.

According to the plaintiff's testimony, Ramírez "managed to sell it to another person", taking advantage of the fact that Devousassoux had not yet registered the plot. Later, the second victim also denounced the former mayor of Haría. "He swindled me, he swindled the next one and he swindled Banco Popular," he assures. In this way, the plaintiff was left without the plot he had acquired.

The other defendant

In this case, Juan Ramírez's former partner, Juan Carlos Hernández, is also accused of fraud. "They associated with each other to swindle me out of the plot," says the plaintiff, who assures that during the trial, the former mayor of Haría "has tried to blame" the other defendant.

For this plaintiff, during the oral hearing "it has been confirmed" the double sale that Ramírez allegedly made of this plot. "He is a man who already knows what his tasks are and I bought that plot in a notary and look what happened," assures Devousassoux.

For all this, the Prosecutor's Office is asking for 3 years in prison for each of the accused, as well as disqualification for the right to passive suffrage. In addition, it requests a compensation of 78,000 euros for Roberto Tomás Devousassoux, since despite having bought it, he finally lost ownership of the plot.

For its part, the private prosecution also asks for the same years in prison and the same compensation, in addition to another figure of 12,000 euros for damages to the plaintiff. The case has been seen for sentencing.

Ramírez's convictions

It is not the first time that Juan Ramírez has faced a trial as an accused and has even been convicted. Thus, in February 2009 he was already sentenced to two years in prison for a crime of fraud in the sale of a home, for having concealed from the buyers that there was a mortgage on the property. In addition, this sentence is added to that of the Villa Dolores case, which is already final and is in the execution phase, so a year ago, Ramírez had to leave his position as councilor for the CCN in the Consistory.

However, for the moment he has managed to delay his entry into prison, since he requested a pardon and is awaiting the response from the Ministry of Justice. In this sentence, Juan Ramírez was imposed a penalty of three and a half years in prison and four years of political disqualification.
