The councilors of the Popular Group in the Tías City Council are "concerned" about the situation that could arise from the accommodation of immigrants in tourist establishments in Puerto del Carmen if the wave of boats that are arriving on our coasts continues in the coming months. And, they point out that "coinciding with periods of good weather and calm seas, as usually happens during these months of August, September and October, the arrival of boats to the island skyrockets, often generating serious problems due to the lack of adequate facilities."
For the popular councilors, "the solution to housing immigrants who test positive for Covid and direct contacts cannot be to permanently resort to tourist accommodation, especially when it is a problem that has been occurring for almost two years."
"It is incomprehensible that when tourist activity is reactivating, the sector finds that none of the responsible administrations has done its job, except to transfer the problem to the heart of the tourist area of the municipality. A concern that is also shared by the residents in the area who complain about this situation and the tensions that occur on many occasions," they state.
Faced with this reality, the popular representatives criticize "the silence maintained by both the mayor of Tias and the Councilor for Tourism, Mame Fernández, who have not been heard raising their voices to the Sánchez executive and the Government of the Canary Islands."
"Of course, what is unacceptable is that the municipal authorities do not demand a solution from those responsible," add the popular representatives of Tias, who have already announced that they will present an urgent motion in the plenary session this month requesting that the municipal government comment on this situation and that the mayor, together with the responsible members of his party, seek alternatives to "avoid the regrettable image that Puerto del Carmen is giving."
"Just as a reaction from the socialist government of Sánchez is lacking, Jose Juan Cruz is also taking time to explain to the residents of Puerto del Carmen, and the municipality in general, what he thinks about the situation that is being experienced, and that, according to forecasts, will be more serious and will increase in the coming months when the incessant trickle of boats continues," conclude the PP ranks in Tías.
