The Popular Party councilors in the Teguise City Council, Jonás Álvarez and Paloma Fernández, have criticized Oswaldo Betancort's government regarding the decision to revert the waste collection service file to the moment of evaluation of offers "without having explored other options that could be less harmful to the residents of the municipality."

"Teguise continues to be the most indebted municipality on the island and the one with the most debt per resident, so the compensations derived from the garbage contract will only further burden the deficit that residents already bear," highlights Jonás Álvarez. And, he affirms that although the sentence does not recognize compensatory effects, "it is more than likely that the companies will present a patrimonial claim for damages and losses, and, in that case, compensation could be determined for the lost industrial profit of more than one million euros."

"Of course, we believe it is irresponsible that a sentence that is a setback in every way for the municipal coffers, the mayor and the rest of the government transfer it to public opinion as if it were a gift and a magnificent opportunity to reorient the garbage collection service," denounces the PP councilman, who criticizes "the concealment and lack of transparency that has existed around this sentence that Oswaldo Betancort kept hidden in the drawer for almost eight months."

"When the service was tendered, the mayor stated that it was moving from a precarious service to one that offered efficiency and guarantees of future and security. Eight years later, we find ourselves with a millionaire condemnatory sentence and a service that will once again be up in the air," says Jonás Álvarez, who considers that during all this time they could have valued other options that were "less harmful" to the interests of Teguise.

"What is clear is that no matter how the mayor paints it, this sentence is a hard blow for the municipal economy, for the budget and for the services provided by the council. Once again, it will be the residents who must assume the debts of their rulers, in this case of CC and the Socialist Party who at that time shared government," concludes the PP spokesman.
