From Partido Popular they consider "very positive" the construction of one or two five-star hotels with an attached convention center in the North sector of Costa Teguise, contemplated in the agreement signed with the developer Algol Desarrollo Inmobiliario and that raised much controversy in the [plenary session this Monday of the Teguise City Council, where it received its initial approval.->6345]

The agreement contemplates "600 tourist beds, which could go in two hotels, and Algol also has a plot, which is the one in front of the Beatriz Costa Teguise hotel, which would be the one paired with the convention center. I think they are important things for Costa Teguise. It is something necessary, it would be very good as a complement to the tourist area and would enhance this area", Rita Martín, PP councilor in the Teguise City Council, told LA VOZ. In any case, the hotel or hotels will be built once the current tourist moratorium ends.

The populars see in principle with good eyes the entirety of the agreement between Algol and the City Council, despite the fact that in the aforementioned plenary session, they abstained from voting, while the rest of the opposition parties voted against, with which the initial approval of the agreement came out with the sole but majority vote of the Government Group (ApL). Rita Martín explained that her abstention was only due to the fact that she considers it appropriate for the deadline for submitting allegations to end before giving her definitive support.

"Algol has developable land and it is logical that it can reach an agreement, but that occupies 85 percent of Costa Teguise and influences the planning of 50 percent of what the rest of the municipality of Teguise can be, and therefore we consider that being exposed for a month and being able to have some allegation, we should take this into account. We understand that it is important that things are done on time and well, and that is why we prefer to wait for those possible allegations, since the Special Plan of Costa Teguise influences the rest of the municipality, and we want to be cautious", said the popular councilor.

Rita Martín, who insisted that beyond those nuances, the agreement is very good for Costa Teguise, clarified that she speaks only as a councilor and not as manager of Asolán. That tourist association has not yet officially positioned itself on the issue, although it is estimated that it will be taken to its Board of Directors this month.

Processing

The period of one month to present allegations to the agreement between Algol Desarrollo Inmobiliario and the Teguise City Council will begin to be fulfilled from the publication of the agreement in the Official Gazette. Meanwhile, the technical office of the Council of Territorial Policy and Environment of the Cabildo will submit a report to the COTMAC.

Once the period for allegations has ended, the agreement, which received its initial approval on Monday, must be debated again in a plenary session of the Teguise City Council, for its definitive approval, after which the mayor would be authorized to sign all the necessary documentation regarding the issue.

The agreement affects all the land that Algol has acquired in Costa Teguise, which totals 1,500,000 square meters and represents 85 percent of the total developable land in this town. According to this agreement, the real estate developer will cede 135,800 square meters to the Teguise City Council for public use, where, among other facilities, the announced sports and sociocultural centers of that town would be located.

At the same time, Algol renounces the construction of 50 percent of the 7,500 residential places it had planned, while the City Council undertakes to allow Algol a reordering of its plots in terms of their buildability.
