The Government of Spain has confirmed to the senator of the Popular Party, Loly Luzardo, that the construction of a permanent Civil Guard post in La Graciosa is not among its short-term plans. For the senator, this news comes as "a cold shower" on the expectations that had been generated around the possible creation of a small detachment on a stable basis on the island.
In recent years, this demand has been gaining weight among the population, which demands greater security measures and which, for the moment, has only been able to be settled with the presence of two officers on weekends, especially during the summer season, when nearly 4,000 people can gather on the island.
Although she values the measure adopted by the Executive last July positively, the senator of the Popular Party considers that the different local administrations should continue to demand the creation of a fixed post in Caleta de Sebo. "If the demand remains on the table of the Minister of the Interior", Luzardo points out, "there are more possibilities that when the deployment of the Civil Guard units is evaluated and reviewed, the need to establish a Unit on the island will become evident".
