The PFAE “Tegoyo en verde” applies sustainability criteria in the garden areas of Tías

The student-workers plant native species throughout the municipality to reduce water consumption

The student-workers of the Employment-Training Program (PFAE) “Tegoyo en verde” are putting sustainability criteria into practice in the design, execution and maintenance of municipal green areas.

According to the City Council, these days they are working in the Matagorda area, where they are replacing the grass with plants selected taking into account the climatic characteristics of the place and its water needs.

The Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Mame Fernández, explained that the commitment is to replace certain species with native plants that require less maintenance and less watering. In this way, it is stated that "a more responsible landscaping is achieved, which combines ornamentation with a reduction in water consumption and less need for resources for its conservation".


Three programs with a validity of eleven months

For her part, the Councilor for Employment, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, recalls that in the municipality there are three PFAEs that began at the end of July and will be valid for 11 months. The three programs are “Tegoyo en verde (gardening)”, “For a cleaner town (cleaning) and “Building a future (masonry).

The programs, subsidized by the Canarian Employment Service (SCE), have a budget of 311,326.85 euros each, totaling 933,980.50 euros in the municipality of Tías. The 45 student-workers receive specific training and obtain a professional certificate related to the activity performed. All of them are directed by a specific coordinating and management team.

The three programs include seven units of work and actions carried out by student-workers in areas such as the Tegoyo picnic area, Tegoyo shelter, Avenida de Las Playas, El Varadero-La Tiñosa and Plaza de las Naciones, roundabouts and flowerbeds of the municipality, educational centers and socio-cultural centers.

In the case of the gardening and masonry projects, those hired are between 16 and 30 years old, while the cleaning project is aimed at people over 30 years old.

The PFAEs are public employment-training programs aimed at unemployed people without specific training in a profession. Its objective is to facilitate access to work through learning and professional experience in an occupation.
