"The replacement of land and pruning will be finished next week," said the Councilor for Parks, Antonio Machín, before the microphones of the Buenos Días Lanzarote program, in relation to the rehabilitation works that the capital's Council is carrying out in the Ramírez Cerdá Park. An area that has suffered for years the consequences of the unsanitary conditions generated by a large colony of herons.

For its part, and in order to relocate the birds to the area near the Cabildo, the Cabildo is working with falconry (eagles and hawks), which so far is not being too successful, in addition to using a "repellent liquid that is not working much", according to Machín, who added that the next thing will be to place a series of "hedgehog-shaped spikes" in the trees to prevent the herons from landing.

Other actions

The fountain recently inaugurated in the capital's Theme Park must also be repaired since, according to the Councilor for Parks and Gardens, "we saw that it has a defect because every time we raise it, the wind throws the water out and empties the cisterns", he says. Thus, he explains that the action will consist of "enlarging it a little towards the coastal area". On the other hand, the skate park will also be remodeled, as will the gardens of the promenade.

In addition, the Los Leones park in the Titerroy neighborhood is also being remodeled thanks to ten operators and three gardeners from the City Council who are working in the area.

With the collaboration of the Arrecife 2007 masonry and gardening workshop school, urban environment and environment, the 14 students are carrying out works in one of the parks in Altavista. They will place rubber flooring, as required by the European Union, and more toys, "taking advantage of those that are in good condition", according to the councilor.

Likewise, an area will be paved as a square with a space for rest, with shade and surrounded by gardens with native species and trees. Machín estimated that the works will be completed in approximately one month.
