The Islote de la Fermina, more deteriorated every day

On June 3rd, La Voz reported with some photographs the regrettable state of the Islote de la Fermina. What used to be a practically paradisiacal pool in the Arrecife marina, two months ago was a cracked hole full of salt. However, the situation, far from changing and improving, is getting worse. The enclosure is increasingly deteriorated and abandoned.

This is the current situation of the Islote de la Fermina, which despite having been inaugurated remains unopened. And its state is regrettable and it is unknown how much it will cost to face all the damages caused by the passage of time and, also, by the deficient surveillance.

These new photographs of the enclosure bring to light the situation of the Islote de la Fermina, whose imminent opening has been announced since 2008. Not only is the spectacular pool that had been built in this place destroyed, but the machines are deteriorated, weeds grow everywhere and garbage floods the ground. There are broken glasses, rooms with broken doors and, in short, a broken paradise.

Two months ago, the Councilor for Urban Planning of Arrecife, Pedro de Armas, said that there had been "various bureaucratic problems, which have delayed the launch of the public tender, so that a company manages the Islote". However, he said these words on June 3rd and now, on August 27th, the enclosure continues to deteriorate, despite the fact that it cost more than 2.4 million euros.
