The Platform of the Municipality of Haría (PMH) has demanded solutions to the appearance of a "plague" of a moth that it claims is damaging potato crops in the municipality.
"The appearance of tecia salanivora, known as the Guatemalan moth, in the potato crop of the municipality, in areas such as Gayo, Los Tablones, La Montaña... is causing damage exceeding 50% of production with the aggravating factor that it cannot be counteracted with the usual chemical means, which means the total loss of the damaged product," they maintain from the formation.
Therefore, through a motion that will be raised in the next plenary session of the City Council, PMH will ask both the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands and the Haría City Council "to take measures against this plague", consisting of "providing the different areas of the island with containers with nets where vegetable remains can be deposited to control the population, acquire the contaminated potato at a low price to proceed with incineration, preventing the farmer from depositing them anywhere; and facilitate access to specific traps through an awareness campaign that prevents the risks of this plague".
From the Platform of the Municipality of Haría they emphasize "the need to put a stop to this authentic threat that can ruin the already impoverished economy of the true bulwarks of the rabbit landscapes, the farmers".
