The EPEL management stands firm against the call for a strike in the Tourist Centers starting on May 1st

"The threat has been consummated." This is how the CACT's counselor expressed himself after officially receiving the announcement that as of May first, the workers of the Tourist Centers are called to an indefinite strike. The company, however, will remain immutable and states that it will not "give in to blackmail". The response has been to propose again to the Works Council its solutions, which involve maintaining the current agreement, submitting to an independent arbitration and unilateral proposed by the Committee or reaching an agreement.

Pedro San Ginés has stated, before the call for strike, that "they need the help of the staff" and assures that it is necessary that "they know the truth and the truth is to listen to the management". In this sense, the counselor anticipates that he will continue with the visits to the Tourist Centers, which he started this Thursday, and in which he "has verified" that the Committee is "lying" to the workers, including "the union representatives". "As an example, the workers were unaware that the management of the public company had accepted each and every one of the proposals," argued the head of the area.

Apparently, according to San Ginés, the workers, upon hearing the version of the management this Thursday, have requested the holding of a General Assembly to witness the conversations between the company's management and the Committee, and thus be able to verify the reality of a conflict in which, in the words of the counselor, the Committee is "deceiving".

Regarding the impact of the strike, the manager of the Tourist Centers, José Juan Lorenzo, warns that "the impact on the image of Lanzarote as a tourist destination will be greater than the economic impact" and that they have planned legal measures, which they will not advance, to minimize the consequences. For this reason, they have not wanted to refer to the minimum services that will be implemented during those days, because it is too early to "make assessments before concluding the explanatory round".
