The Board of Directors of CEIP Playa Honda and AMPA of the center received this Thursday the Deputy Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, the mayor of San Bartolomé, María Dolores Corujo and the Councilor for Education, Eduardo Perera. The insular director of Education, Florentina Alonso, attended the meeting on her first day of agenda, who took note of the demands of the parents and the center. Manuela Armas promised that "shortly" the works to fence the center will begin.
The mayor opened the meeting thanking everyone for their presence at this event, to present the needs of CEIP Playa Honda, the second most important center in the Canary Islands in terms of students, with a total of 855 children enrolled. She also thanked "the enormous work of the management team and AMPA of the center", and how "deficiencies have gradually been resolved, being aware that there are still issues to be resolved".
Manuela Armas, explained to the attendees her commitment in coordination with the San Bartolomé City Council, to resolve the security problem, which will be resolved with the fencing. The Vice-Ministry will take care of the technical part and materials and the City Council of the labor.
The parents took the opportunity to request that an outdoor patio be paved, which is currently covered with rofe, that a pergola or visor be placed to avoid the heat, as well as a closet for one of the classrooms, among other actions.
The Director of the center, representing the management team present at the meeting, María del Carmen Martín, acknowledged the collaboration of the parents, "because they work incessantly to improve the facilities"; of the City Council "because within the current possibilities, it has been solving numerous repairs and improvements"; of the mayor, "for her commitment to improve and coordinate actions; and to the Vice-Ministry, "for coming to Playa Honda to learn about the reality of the center, for its joint commitment with the City Council and to solve other needs that have been requested directly by CEIP Playa Honda".
