"I bid farewell as the public and political head of the Famara Festivities with the peace of mind of having done the best I could. Long live the festivities of the Sacred Heart of Mary, long live La Caleta and long live its people! Today I take a step back, but you know you will have me as a neighbor for whatever you want. A hug to all and thank you very much!". This was the message that the Councilor for Festivities of Teguise, Daniel Morales, published this Sunday on his Facebook page, amidst the controversy opened by the development of this year's Famara festivities.
His words were interpreted as an imminent resignation, although he himself has denied it this Monday on Radio Lanzarote – Onda Cero. However, he has confirmed that he will only continue in office for a few more months, as he will not be running in the next elections.
"I have put an end as a public official, since I have no intention of repeating in the Teguise City Council", the councilman has confirmed. Regarding the reasons that have led him to make this decision, Morales denies that he has felt a lack of support from his party or the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort.
"It has nothing to do with that," he said. "I am very grateful to my colleagues, the party... But to be in politics you have to want to, and at this moment I have another goal in my life," he explained, clarifying that this goal is "personal".
Thus, he has said goodbye to the organization of the Famara festivities, which this year have registered a new record of participation, but also of criticism. "Next year, the person who is there and who is chosen by the citizens will be in charge of carrying out the festivities", the councilman pointed out.
