The Civil Guard finds the body of a North African man floating in the water next to an overturned boat in Lanzarote

Around 12:35 on Sunday, the Civil Guard became aware that a wooden boat type patera was overturned in the sea a short distance from the coast of Punta de Los Ancones, Teguise.

Once this finding was verified, the lifeless body of an adult male of Maghrebi origin was found floating in the water, which the sea currents dragged towards the shore and in the vicinity of the point where the boat was discovered.

The "Báltico" Patrol Boat of the Civil Guard traveled to the area carrying out searches by sea, although no other corpse was found floating on the surface or under the shipwrecked boat.

A few hours later, around 1:30 p.m., during the search operation launched by the Civil Guard, on land and in a nearby area, an adult male immigrant, also of Maghrebi origin, was located with his clothes completely wet, who was part of the group that arrived in this patera, being transferred to the facilities of the Civil Guard of Costa Teguise where he remains in custody, although he refuses to provide any information about his arrival on the Island.

The Civil Guard estimates that this boat arrived during the last hours, perhaps during this past morning or early in the morning, with about twenty immigrants, overturning the boat during the disembarkation of its occupants.

Throughout the afternoon the search by land for the remaining immigrants will continue, in addition to surveillance by sea.

The corpse will be transferred to the forensic depot of Arrecife to be subjected to the corresponding autopsy.
