After the lamentable state of the Islote de la Fermina, which La Voz has denounced with photographs on two occasions, the government group of the Arrecife City Council has sent a team to proceed with the cleaning of this deteriorated space. Likewise, according to the Councilor for Urban Planning of the Arrecife City Council, Pedro de Armas, in a press conference, they are working on the elaboration of a draft to make the terms and conditions to put the Islote de la Fermina out to tender.
On August 27, La Voz once again denounced through photographs, as it did on June 3, the lamentable state of this space, whose opening has been announced since 2008. A destroyed pool, deteriorated machines, broken glass and doors, as well as weeds and garbage that flood the ground is what can be found in the Islote de la Fermina. A deterioration that, according to the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, is the result of "people who have entered there and have broken it". "We have to work to make Arrecife beautiful, not to destroy it", said the capital's mayor.
Faced with this situation, the government group of Arrecife has sent a team of personnel "four or five days ago", according to Pedro de Armas, to completely clean the Islote de la Fermina. Similarly, he added, electricity will be contracted to put the pools into operation. "The Islote should not have been received since a agreement was signed that was not regulated by the Corporation and they did not look to see if it met all the technical conditions," said the Councilor for Urban Planning.
Likewise, De Armas has announced that at this moment they are working on the draft to elaborate the terms and conditions that will allow the Islote de la Fermina to be put out to tender. According to the capital's mayor, this draft will be elaborated in "four weeks", to be taken later to committee and to plenary.
Some parties "cheaper" than those of last year
Among other issues, the mayor of Arrecife has also responded to the criticisms of CC, which claimed that the Sangineles had cost "more than one million euros". "I cannot say the exact figure because I do not know it right now, but we have spent much less than last year", has been the response of Cándido Reguera.
In this sense, the capital's mayor has also highlighted the money raised with the Alejandro Sanz concert. A figure that reaches 117,200 euros, which will be allocated entirely to the NGOs of the island that, this year, according to Reguera, will receive approximately 240,000 euros. Likewise, he added, a total of 91 people were hired directly for this concert.
In the words of Reguera, the opposition has wanted to create "a fictitious controversy" around this concert."We have been transparent and we have made a public and notorious contract, which anyone can see", said Reguera, who added that "Arrecife cannot be behind other cities such as New York, London or Madrid".
Resumption of the works of the Neighborhood Plan
The capital's mayor has also announced the resumption of the works of the Neighborhood Plan. Some works that were paralyzed last August due to "the vacations of the personnel" according to the government group of the Arrecife City Council, although CC denounced then that the capital's Consistory had not "faced the payment of the works".
In any case, the works have been resumed "at the same rate", according to Reguera. The works will affect a total of 161 streets of the neighborhoods of Maneje, La Vega, Los Alonso and Valterra. According to Reguera, employment will be given to 343 people directly and 30,000 neighbors will benefit from these interventions.
Likewise, the capital's mayor has referred to the last section of León y Castillo street, which will also undergo changes in the coming months, thanks to the improvement works of urban sustainable mobility, financed by the State Fund for Employment and Local Sustainability, with a budget of approximately 140,000 euros. According to Reguera, a total of 113 people will work on the improvement of the asphalt, lighting, street furniture and sewerage.
Reduction of the IBI
Another of the measures announced by the government group of Arrecife is the reduction of 14 percent in the IBI, with respect to 2009. A measure that, according to Reguera, will affect "26,500 neighbors". In addition, those who have their receipt domiciled will have a bonus of 5 percent. Likewise, large families, who accredit it in the capital's Consistory before October 3, may obtain a bonus of 60 percent in the IBI.
The term for the voluntary payment of the Real Estate Tax began on September 3 and will conclude on November 3, advancing one month with respect to previous years, in order to avoid that the Consistory can be penalized again by the Canary Islands Financing Fund, as it was last year, with 200,000 euros
Center for Minors
Likewise, Reguera has highlighted that in the coming months the work of the Center for Minors will be executed, which has a budget of 463,575 euros. A work that is not exempt from controversy either. And it is that, this place was ceded in 2006 by the Consistory to the murga Los Gorfines, who denounced last week the intention of the City Council to "take away the place" in which they had "invested a lot of money".
Reguera has affirmed that he hopes "to reach an agreement" with the murga Los Gorfines that "is beneficial for both parties", but that "such an important work cannot be lost".
Tourist market
Finally, the mayor of Arrecife has advanced that the tourist market, located in the Theme Park, will be moved soon to the streets surrounding Calle Real. "We have to open Arrecife to tourism and generate more commercial activity", concluded Reguera.
