The Arrecife City Council, through its Councilor for Cleaning, José Carmelo Santana, has rejected the accusations made by the president of the Titerroy Neighborhood Association, Ismael Montero, and has denied that water has accumulated in the house where a young man died in 2009, after the roof of the house collapsed. Santana has assured that there is no humidity in the houses adjacent to this house, which was walled up by the capital's City Council "at the request of the residents of the area."

The capital's councilor, who visited the affected house this Tuesday together with the municipal technician who carried out the work, has assured that he has verified firsthand that "no water has been deposited in the house." In this sense, Santana recalled that when the doors and windows of this house were walled up, "a drain was left in the patio of the house," so that rainwater could drain without problems, "so it has not accumulated."

"We have been this morning visiting both the neighbor next door and the one behind this house, because the rest of the houses are uninhabited, and they have confirmed that they have no humidity," Santana stressed.

Regarding the state of these houses, it should be remembered that the mayor of the capital, Cándido Reguera, asked the Housing spokesperson of the Popular Party in the Congress of Deputies, Pablo Matos, to intercede with the Executive to "give a definitive solution to the residents" and that the rehabilitation of the houses in Titerroy and Valterra is finally contemplated.

In total, there are 240 houses in the "José Antonio" and "Titerroy" neighborhoods, which need comprehensive rehabilitation, in addition to "improving hygiene and living conditions, alleviating, if the serious problem of humidity cannot be eradicated, updating the electricity and plumbing installations, in short, converting these substandard houses into habitable homes." As for the Valterra neighborhood, there are another 200 houses that are also in a poor state of conservation.
