The Teguise City Council has requested the Cabildo of Lanzarote to include the patron saint festivities of Caleta de Famara, in honor of the Sacred Heart of Mary, in its catalog of "insular festival." After the "success" and the "social relevance" that these festivities are acquiring "gradually", the Councilor for Festivities, Daniel Morales, has decided to make this request to the first institution.

The objective of the councilman is that the Cabildo agrees on a "denomination" for these festivities, which have the daily visit of at least 6,000 Lanzarote residents, who enjoy various activities in this coastal town.

The request sponsored by the Festivities Area of Teguise "seeks close collaboration between institutions." And, once the Caleta de Famara festivities have an insular scope, the Security Plan for them will "have the widest possible coverage of human and material resources." Thus, this plan would be similar to the one deployed in Carnivals or in the patron saint festivities in honor of the Virgen de Los Dolores.

"The growing popular acceptance that the celebrations obtain have forced neighbors and local entities to make an extra effort to guarantee the correct development of the activities, an effort where the first insular institution has collaborated. This request will be officialized shortly, a proposal that seems to have the consent of security experts", according to Morales.

It should be remembered that this year Caleta de Famara hosted two massive nocturnal festivals, which were attended by about 10,000 Lanzarote residents. In addition, it held a water party and a procession to which, according to the data of the Local Police, about 5,000 people attended.
