The modernization of the pedestrianization of the Arrecife seafront, next to El Reducto beach, has a date to be enjoyed by citizens and visitors. The mayor of the city, Yonathan de León Machín, has confirmed that the completion of the works on the Avenida Fred Olsen section "is scheduled to be completed before the end of June."
De León has visited the works being carried out for the pedestrianization of a section of the avenue next to El Reducto beach, between Valls de la Torre and Guenia streets, in the capital of Lanzarote. During the visit, the construction company has informed the mayor that the works will be completed in these coming weeks.
In these first days of May, the construction company has installed the new davits for the night lighting of this section of the pedestrian promenade, and the beach area. During this month of May, the company will install the pavement on the new bike lane that runs through the center of the transformed avenue. Until now, that section of bike lane was attached to the promenade, hindering the mobility and safety of pedestrians.
The transformation of the urban image of this section of the city's seafront includes new shade areas with the planting of large trees, street furniture and a staircase that allows direct access to the beach, where until now there was a separation wall between the beach and the avenue.
The mayor feels "satisfied" that the city is advancing in "recovering pedestrian spaces by the sea, accessible and without barriers", where families can transit safely, without the presence of vehicles in this section. The city council has been able to execute the pedestrianization of this section of Avenida Fred Olsen as all the buildings in the area have access to the garages through El Greco street, which has recently changed its urban image.
The mayor of Arrecife has reported that in these coming weeks of May the awarded company will carry out the resurfacing works on Valls de la Torre street and the surroundings of the small roundabout with the Barlovento sculpture, a work by César Manrique.
