The Government of the Canary Islands is going to transfer one million euros to the Cabildo of Lanzarote to finance a work that redirects the stormwater in Argana, in order to "prevent new floods from occurring in Arrecife and Costa Teguise" every time there is heavy rain.

This was announced by the presidents of the two institutions, Fernando Clavijo and Oswaldo Betancort, on the occasion of the meeting that the Government Council of the Canary Islands is holding in Lanzarote this Monday.

Betancort has detailed that the project to be executed will expand the capacity of the Argana stormwater collector and redirect the water towards the Punta del Camello and explained that they also plan to act on the mouth of the Hurón ravine.

The president of the Cabildo also highlighted that the capital of the island, Arrecife "is in luck" because "after many years of legal uncertainty" it will be approved that its general urban plan allows increasing the height of the buildings.

"It will allow us to take advantage of that buildability and, above all, we hope that we can, once and for all and with the regulations in hand, respond to that lack of housing that the town of Arrecife has," he added.
