The Ferrovial group, as well as the company Hermanos Santana Cazorla, are aware of the water problem in the Canary Islands. "We have a water shortage and we must make the most of it," says Osvaldo Angulo, site manager of the UTE formed by these companies, which is currently building two treatment plants in Gran Canaria and two water tanks that will significantly improve the treatment of wastewater.

"The Canary Islands need water, we have to be aware of that," argues Angulo, who believes that this project promoted by this UTE prevents wastewater from reaching the sea. "Being able to reuse water in the Archipelago is very, very good," he says.

And, according to him, this investment of more than 15 million euros is very important for the Canary Islands. "Water treatment is essential," he insists, while pointing out that the Archipelago "is a leader in water purification issues at the level of Spain and Europe."

For this civil engineer there are two basic objectives of purification. "On the one hand, there is the issue of reusing water, of not wasting it or losing it, of being able to use it for other purposes. With this we also contribute to the environment. And, on the other hand, to prevent wastewater from reaching the sea. If we did not have these treatment plants, the water would go to an emissary and from there to the sea, which would become a treatment plant," he explains.
