The Canarian Resident Bonus promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands will finally arrive in Lanzarote from December 1, "in order to reduce the cost of land public transport on all the islands and thus promote more sustainable mobility in travel." "The price of public transport in Lanzarote will no longer be a reason not to use the service from now on," say from the Island Corporation, which had received criticism from the opposition for the delay in the implementation of this service.

The bonus will have a price of 20 euros, with monthly validity and unlimited travel for interurban passenger transport throughout the island and also for users of regular passenger transport buses in Arrecife, thanks - in the latter case - to the agreement to be signed between the Cabildo and the City Council so that all citizens of the island can benefit without exclusion from these advantageous conditions and the reduction in the price of the ticket.

During the presentation ceremony, which was attended by the President of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, and the Councilor for Transport and Mobility of the Institution, Patricia Pérez, they highlighted that "this bonus represents an extraordinary reduction in the price of the ticket, as never before has there been in public transport." In addition, San GInés pointed out that this price on the island has been achieved "as a result of the increase in the financial contribution from the Government of the Canary Islands to the Cabildo, which amounts to 2.4 million euros from the Canary Islands-State agreement to support and promote collective transport on the island of Lanzarote."

With this contribution from the regional government, "the Cabildo of Lanzarote will reduce the final price of the ticket for residents, with a rate that will be applied linearly to all users, in order to promote the use of public transport over private vehicles, which will - in turn - result in the reduction of energy consumption and the emission of polluting gases in land transport journeys," said the president.

Savings of more than 100 euros

The Councilor for Transport and Mobility, Patricia Pérez, thanked the concessionaire of the public service, Intercity Bus, "for also being part of this progress and great change for users of public transport on the island" and detailed that "the implementation of this bonus will mean significant savings for them, especially benefiting the workers of the island who travel daily between the different municipalities."

In this regard, and as an example, at the press conference it was explained that for a resident who goes daily, five days a month, from Arrecife to Haría and returns, the cost to date of the service would be 126 euros (100.8 with the application of a 20% current discount for resident fare) and that the one who makes the daily journey from Playa Blanca to Arrecife would be paying about 144 euros without resident discount (115 euros with current discount).

However, from now on, the bonus to move by public transport throughout the island, including the Arrecife buses, will be 20 euros, with unlimited journeys, "so the savings in this case will be 106 euros for the one who makes the daily journey from Arrecife to Haría and 124 euros for the one who does it from the capital to Playa Blanca and vice versa; that is, they will pay a sixth of what they were paying until now," according to the Cabildo, from where it is indicated that in the case of students or other groups, who until now benefited from 50 and 30%, respectively, will also notice the reduction in the price of the ticket "in a considerable way."
