The Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo of Lanzarote have awarded the project for the Reorganization of Uses of the Casa de los Volcanes to Constructora San José, a company that presented the best valued offer by the contracting table. The proposal presented by Constructora San José will not imply interference, in any case, neither in the visiting conditions nor in the schedules of Jameos del Agua.
As explained by the Cabildo, "the project was conceived by GPY Arquitectos, involves the reorganization of uses of the Casa de los Volcanes, intervenes and recovers unfinished infrastructures and, therefore, never used on the upper floor of the Jameos del Agua building to house a better, modern and multipurpose Casa de los Volcanes. The space currently occupied by the seismological dissemination center will recover the location that César Manrique designed for a restaurant capable of meeting the needs of both visitors to Jameos del Agua and the events that take place in the Auditorium"
In addition, the project offers a solution to a structural problem of Jameos del Agua such as improving accessibility to the upper area by contemplating the installation of an elevator that will give access to the four existing levels in the center.
The project for the Reorganization of Uses of the Casa de los Volcanes of the Jameos del Agua center is the result of a commission to GPY Arquitectos from the monitoring commission of the state of conservation of the Centers, promoted by the Entity itself and with representation from the César Manrique Foundation and the technical services of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
The financing of the project will be charged to funds from the Government of the Canary Islands through the Cabildo of Lanzarote. Around 75% of the global budget, 1,850,000 euros, comes from the agreement signed just a year ago between the First Island Institution and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands.
"San José is an international group closely linked to the development of infrastructures that respect the natural environment, which has executed or is executing innovative projects in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Peru, Cape Verde, Uruguay, Chile and India, among others," they point out from the Institution.
