The Lanzarote Council has held the second meeting of the Institutional Board for Social Action and Seniors in order to show the progress that has been made in the procedure to contract a home help service for dependent people. In this way, the highest island institution promises to resolve the waiting list in one year.
“This issue is strategic for Lanzarote -explained the Councilor for Social Welfare and Equality, Marci Acuña- due to the impact it may have on the well-being of citizens once it is launched.” He stressed that the new service will respond to the current waiting list, which includes 611 people. In addition, it will also serve to alleviate the pressure on other forms of social care, such as day centers and residences.
Marci Acuña valued the good harmony in which this meeting was held, in which councilors from the social affairs areas of all the municipalities met. “This is the line that this Government team wants to follow: to have the contributions of all the town councils with the aim of responding to the needs of the island's population,” he considered. Likewise, the councilor announced that the intention of the Island Corporation is to convene this table every two months and also do so on a traveling basis. In fact, the next one will be held at the Arrecife City Council.
The Institutional Board for Social Action and Seniors discussed other issues of interest to Lanzarote, such as the need to establish a network of small care centers for unaccompanied minors who are arriving on the Island. “The objective is to provide them with the best care,” said Acuña, highlighting other issues discussed, such as the situation of the Tahíche residence, the presentation of the Lanzarote Rejuvenation Plan Taking Care of our Greatest Treasure, or the progress in the specifications for the articulated beds service.
