The Cabildo of Lanzarote commemorates World Cancer Day, which is celebrated this February 4. Among the planned events is the illumination of the main facade of the Island Institution headquarters in violet, as well as the reading of a manifesto tomorrow Tuesday during a plenary session of the Corporation.

In addition, this Monday, the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, and the Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, have intervened in a simple act of placing a banner installed by the Association of Oncohematological Families of Lanzarote (AFOL), whose president, Carmen Arrocha, was present today.

Councilor Marci Acuña highlighted "the importance of continuing to advance in the fight against cancer and recalled the renewed commitment of the public administration to support this type of association, which defends the rights of people who suffer from it. It is our responsibility to accompany this association and continue to improve public health to offer the population of Lanzarote and La Graciosa optimal medical care," he added.

AFOL is a non-profit association, created in 2001 by a group of parents, who provide psychological, social, educational and economic assistance, among other areas, to minors and adults who suffer from cancer.

With these actions, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and associations such as AFOL or the Spanish Association Against Cancer (which will read the manifesto tomorrow) seek to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of cancer and all its variations, which affects 285,530 people throughout Spain, as well as about its treatments, care and possible prevention.
