The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has expressed her satisfaction for the granting of the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands to the César Manrique Foundation and wanted to convey on behalf of the Corporation and on her own behalf her congratulations to the entity.
“As a Lanzarote native, it fills me with pride that the merits that make the Foundation worthy of this award are recognized. Her tireless work in defense of Manrique's work and legacy have contributed to keeping the presence of our most universal artist alive among us,” Corujo highlighted.
For the president, the identification between Lanzarote and César Manrique continues to be "of extraordinary importance": “César has become an authentic icon that reminds us every day that we inhabit a unique island and that it is in our hands to ensure that it remains so. The Foundation has played a fundamental role in this task.”
Corujo concluded by pointing out that the Gold Medal arrives at the most appropriate time. “Culminating César's centenary with this recognition is an act of justice with a model institution that has made the conservation of César's legacy an act of service to the island's society.”
