The Cabildo of Lanzarote started last week the works to improve the surroundings of the CEIP Nieves Toledo, in Arrecife. The first phase of the actions began in Vicente Vilas González street, with the aim of "not altering accessibility in the area in the last weeks of the course". Once the first stage is finished, work will be carried out on Indio street in its entirety.

The works are part of the "Safe School Route" project, and have an investment of 309,987 euros, from ERDF Funds, through the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) "Conurban Azul". The expected period for the execution of the project is six months from its beginning.

The Councilor for Public Works, Alfredo Mendoza, explained that the actions aim to "ensure that children travel autonomously and safely, betting on healthy, sustainable and safe mobility".

“Children belong to a group of more unprotected pedestrians, therefore it is intended to improve these environments with actions to eliminate existing architectural barriers, reduce the speed of vehicles in the vicinity of schools by placing several speed bumps and improve horizontal and vertical signage, placement of parking for bicycles, motorcycles and PMR vehicles, among other actions”, detailed the councilor.
