The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has requested from the mayoress and mayors of the island an inventory of the "shadow areas" of their municipalities in order to carry out a "global intervention" that serves to end the digital divide on the island, “a factor that limits the development of the most vulnerable groups, and that has had an even greater impact during the last months, when the activity of many entities and institutions has been reoriented towards digital environments.”

In this sense, the president of the First Island Institution recalls that not having connectivity or the necessary equipment during confinement “made the learning process difficult for the most disadvantaged students, generating a curricular gap with respect to those who did have the resources and knowledge necessary to keep up.” Likewise, she points out that the digital divide generated “not a few difficulties for families on the island when facing teleworking.” Similarly, Corujo explains that this gap “reduces competitiveness and growth possibilities for small and medium-sized companies on the island.”
