Lanzarote is moving towards the delivery of the Island Plan of Lanzarote with the coordination of Gesplan. The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, accompanied by the CEO of Gesplan, Miguel Ángel Pérez Hernández, the director of the Territorial Planning Area of Gesplan, Óscar Rebollo, and several technicians, has held a second working meeting in Tenerife with those responsible for Gesplan, the public company in charge of drafting the Island Planning Plan (PIO) of Lanzarote.
The objective of this new coordination meeting is to "carry out an exhaustive monitoring of the deadlines set to have, as soon as possible, this Island Plan, a document that has not been updated since 1991 and that, therefore, does not respond to the current and future needs of our island", highlights President Oswaldo Betancort.
Betancort trusts that "the fruit of this institutional collaboration will be a success that the society of Lanzarote and La Graciosa can soon celebrate in terms of planning", and appreciates "the commitment of the entire team that is working hard on this new document, as well as the vigor of the area's councilor, the colleague Jesús Machín Tavío, because he is "fully aware of how vital and urgent it is to provide the island with this territorial planning and management instrument to guarantee sustainable development in our land, which respects our landscape and our natural resources and which has as its banner the values and the spirit of César Manrique".
In this sense, the president highlights that "the main goal of this administration is to obtain the initial approval of the new Island Plan of Lanzarote during the current legislature", and for this he has the commitment of Gesplan to deliver the draft of the plan and the special strategic document next September.
For his part, the Councilor for Territorial Planning and Policy, Jesús Machín, expressed his "satisfaction" because this new coordination meeting with Gesplan led by the island's president, has served to "progress in the development of an essential plan for the island and ensure that the deadlines established to obtain a document of utmost importance that needed to be updated and adapted to the new demands of Lanzarote are met, as well as to the model of sustainable development and balanced growth that we firmly defend".
It is important to remember that this process of updating the Island Plan of Lanzarote represents an "opportunity to optimize the management of resources, ensuring the protection of our natural and heritage spaces for future generations, with the ultimate goal of achieving sustainable and balanced development on the island".
